Our Story

I grew up in Nashville attending public school and also Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon TN. After high school, I came to Cookeville to attend Tennessee Tech University. After living in Atlanta, East Tennessee and Southwest Virginia, I made the decision so many of my customers have–to live in Cookeville! The community left an impression that lasted long after I graduated and I wanted to come back here to raise my family. A major factor influencing my to decision to live in Cookeville was the climate and the access to so many recreational areas including Big South Fork, Center Hill, Dale Hollow and Cordell Hull lakes. I also recognized that Cookeville is full of opportunities to get involved with school, church, community, and civic organizations. I am convinced that my decision to live in Cookeville was one of the best I have made. I also met my wife of 21 years here and she is a NATIVE of Cookeville!

I sincerely hope to meet you and share my enthusiasm for Cookeville and the Upper Cumberland! My friends know me as a Corvair buff–I have driven Corvairs for over 30 years. Although I have now scaled back from over ten Corvairs to one ‘66 convertible, I have a son and grandson who share my love for Corvairs. But my interests aren’t limited to cars—I enjoy camping, fishing, hiking and biking, too.

I now have 30 plus years at American Way. Real estate is a passion that has been extremely rewarding to me and my family. We have made lifetime friends through this vocation. In 1999, my wife joined me at American Way and our partnership has been extremely beneficial to us and to our customers. It is my personal goal to bring friendly and professional service to every transaction with my customers.

Karen Evans, Agent

I am a Cookeville native with family history going back to the original settling of the area. I am also a product of the Putnam County school system and a graduate of Putnam County Senior High. After spending 11 years with J.C. Penney, I joined my husband at American Way in 1999. Real Estate is the most demanding occupation I have been involved in but, at the same time, it has been the most rewarding. Part of that reward was becoming a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Club.

In addition to my work in real estate, I enjoy buying and selling antiques, watching movies, camping and traveling, and going to Corvair shows where we occasionally show our ’66 convertible. I like getting outdoors and have hiked in Jefferson National Forest, on portions of the Appalachian Trail, Whitetop Mountain in VA, and Lake Tahoe. Mac and I also enjoy fishing the Caney Fork and Martin’s Creek.
